The villa was built in the 17th century by Ludovico I and used by the Manins as a country house. Consisting of a central residential body and service areas for agricultural activities, the villa housed cellars, granaries and stables. At the end of the 18th century, under Ludovico IV Manin, it became the headquarters of French troops and the site of the “Treaty of Campoformido” negotiations. After the decline of the Manin family in the 19th century, the villa suffered a period of decay. In 1969 the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region bought the property, which now hosts exhibitions and events. Carlo Goldoni called it a “stay worthy of a king,” an appreciation that endures to this day.
