Canto dei colli

Santuario Santa Maria Regina dei Popoli in Preval – Mossa

Traditional Music UNESCO Heritage

The impassioned urban folk song of Bosnia and Herzegovina makes us travel to the Balkans to the rhythm of music, discovering this traditional vocal form that since 2024 has entered the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It will be interpreted by a duo of performers who will take turns singing accompanied by the saz, a kind of long-handled lute also known as the “Saracen guitar,” which will sometimes be joined by the daf, a typical frame drum of Middle Eastern folk music. The sevdalinka was in fact born of the contamination between the oral poetry of the South Slavic population and the musical influences of the Ottoman Empire. Its subtle melancholy is capable of bewitching, telling stories of love and nostalgia, departures and returns.
