Palazzo Coronini Cronberg, built between 1593 and 1598 by Carlo Zengraf, is located in Gorizia and has a history full of significant events. In the 17th century, the palace passed to the Strassoldo nobles, who modified its appearance, adding a chapel and other structures. In 1820, Count Michele Coronini Cronberg purchased the property and undertook massive renovations. A crucial event in the history of the palace was the stay of the last king of France, Charles X, who moved to Gorizia in exile in 1836. A few months later, the king died of cholera and was buried in the convent of Castagnavizza. During World War I, the palace suffered severe damage, but was restored between 1919 and 1923. The palace, listed as a historic monument in 1922, became the headquarters of various military commands during World War II and, in the 1950s, was returned to the Coronini. Today it is a museum residence, bearing witness to centuries of history and culture.
