The castle is first documented in 1219, when James of the lords of the same name made an alliance against the patriarch of Aquileia. Although the village was already present two centuries earlier, the castle gained strategic importance due to its defensive position near Udine and Cividale, becoming the scene of numerous conflicts. In 1306, after being betrayed, it was conquered by the Count of Gorizia, destroyed and rebuilt three years later. It later passed to the de Portis nobles and underwent major renovations in the 17th and 18th centuries. Today the castle, characterized by two tall towers, towers above a vast landscape of vineyards.
