The 19th edition of the Piccolo Opera Festival unfolds around freedom: desired, denied, pursued, conquered.: desired, denied, pursued, conquered. A freedom that runs through stories, ignites voices, and inhabits landscapes.
For the first time, as many as five opera productions – more than ever before – shape the rhythm and vision of the festival, alongside new creations, reinterpretations of the repertoire, and traditions that transcend borders and belonging.
Among vineyards, historic residences, and places of memory, the festival invites audiences to be moved, surprised, and transformed. Because opera, today more than ever, can be necessary, alive, and free.

Festival Sections:

Opera

Never before has the Festival’s Opera programme been so rich in events and new productions. The theme of “freedom” provides the perfect starting point to range from lesser-known works of the classical repertoire to new writings, contemporary productions, and original reinterpretations of celebrated masterpieces. Audiences will also have the rare opportunity to experience theatre and music in extraordinary venues exceptionally opened for performance.

Serenate in vigna/Vineyard Serenades

Along the hills of Collio-Brda, the landscape reveals the incomparable beauty of a generous land, whose renowned wines are offered in tasting at the perfect close of these musical sunsets. A symbolic compass guides the listening experience toward the Four Cardinal Points, giving the stage to the brilliant voices of the GO! Borderless Opera Lab Academy alongside distinguished international guests: a small and precious compendium of the world and of art.

Canto dei colli/Voices of the hills

The Festival continues its international commitment to promoting traditional singing practices recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. The programme explores different ways of using the voice, highlighting the many forms of folk choral music. The selected venues invite audiences to discover the cultural and artistic landscape of a border territory that has always been fertile ground for encounters and exchange.

OFF

This section hosts events dedicated to community engagement, audience development, and the promotion of the Festival programme and activities, multiplying opportunities for participation and sharing. A journey shaped by curiosity and surprise, where the dissemination of opera repertoire in “free” and innovative forms meets the desire to attract ever new and passionate audiences.
