“Trough this beautiful meadow run many merry rivers, that with a short journey
offer their tribute to the sea, and give a lot of comfort and utiliy.
There are then under the Alps some small mountains full of fruit and extremely delicious
and for many beautiful little castles on top of them very pleasent and delicious to passengers
as well as useful and tasteful for the inhabitants.

The Festival takes place in a dozen municipalities in Friuli Venezia Giulia forming a real cultural bridge that connects Maniago with Udine and Trieste through many towns in Friuli at the foots of the Alps. While not a very large region, Friuli Venezia Giulia is an area with many facets.
Coming down from the north the mountains enhance their peaks with great pine forests, then the flat part in its well-tended crops given by the abundance of rivers, ending with the sea calm waters of the lagoon. The eastern part of the coast is a large bay, behind which lies the Plateau Carso. Going up in the east there is a hilly area full of vineyards, which closes the region along the border with Slovenia.
The western section of the coast instead, between the rivers Tagliamento and Isonzo is low and sandy. A myriad of castles, towers and fortified palaces adorn the Friuli Venezia Giulia. Not only the castles perched on rocky headlands overlooking the sea, the coast of Trieste, like those of Miramare and Duino, but also the many fortifications of the hills of Friuli. Today, these charming villages and castles protect timeless corners.
Friuli is also rich of several Venetian villas whose most outstanding example is the Villa Manin fascinating for the imposing size, the elegance of the forms, the decorative richness and the great balance between architecture and environment.
Friuli Venezia Giulia produces many fine wines exported throughout the world; remember the Tocai (now called Friulano) and Merlot. The more charaterisitc spirit production is without doubt grappa. The breeding of cattle for meat and milk is very intense, as well of pigs, giving highest quality products such the famous San Daniele Posciutto.
