The festival organized by Associazione Piccolo Festival Friuli Venezia Giulia was founded in 2007 in cooperation with the municipalities of Magnano in Riviera, Reana da Rojale, Tarcento and Tricesimo in range of a programme of cultural collaboration promoted by Region Friuli Venezia Giulia.

The performances of opera, ballet, chamber music, traditional music, theatre and film, are held during the last part of August and first week of September of every year. Over the years, the participation of national artists such as Chiara Guidi, Omero Antonutti, Ugo Gregoretti, Luciano Roman, aroused public and media appreciation.

Distinctive feature of Festival is involvement of best local forces, particularly the young ones, next to artists of national and international importance. Artistically the name Festival keeps different meanings: is bound to Giorgio Strehler, world renowned director, born in Trieste and founder of Piccolo Teatro Milan, ten years exactly after his death; is a cultural event that wants to rise from modesty, from work, as alternative to tired overfunded subjects; so camerism is a typical character of productions of Piccolo Festival that wants to become a production laboratory with dedicated shows to young public, the public of future.
