The festival, organized by the Cultural Association Piccolo Festival of Friuli Venezia Giulia, was born in 2007 as part of the Integrated Projects for Culture promoted by the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia.

From the four municipalities participating in the first edition has come to draw in three provinces of distributed thirteen (Udine, Pordenone and Trieste) and presents its shows in collaboration with leading regional and national institutions.

The program is developed between the months of August and September with performances of opera, concerts, traditional music, theater and cinema. Characteristic feature of the Festival is its training program for opera singers in which each year produces a title of chamber opera, which enhances, in addition to the many theaters in the region, including striking and unusual places such as villas, castles and cloisters.

The value of sites creates an important opportunity to promote tourism for the communities and their traditional production.
